Adelheid von Saldern is Professor Emeritus for Modern History at the Leibniz University of Hannover. Her work has focused focused especially on social and cultureal history in the 20th century history. Her most recent publication, Amerikanismus: Kulturelle Abgrenzung von Europa und US-Nationalismus im frühen 20. Jahrhundert (Steiner, 2013) [Americanism: Cultural Divergence from Europe and the U.S. Nationalism in the early 20th Century], looks at the connections between the search for uniquely American identity and the desire for cultural and artistic independence from Europe.
